Police Make 2 Arrests After Domestic Violence Related Shooting

A Redding woman says a campaign of terror has ended with the arrest of her ex-boyfriend. Just after 11:30PM Monday night a woman called 9-1-1 to say her ex-boyfriend had just brandished a gun at her in the area of Hartnell and Churn Creek. She identified him as 30-year-old Ray Early Beauchamp, a former Lousiana resident who now lives in Redding. While on the phone with dispatchers, the woman said Beauchamp fired several shots at her. By then she was near the Red Lion Hotel on Hilltop Drive, and she said he fled after firing the rounds. When officers arrived they couldn’t find Beauchamp, but they found six spent 9 millimeter shell casings on the ground. The woman told officers the story of her harrowing day. She said she had recently broken up after a relationship of several months with Beauchamp because of un-resolvable issues and abuse. She said he his frustration boiled over on Monday when he confronted her at a friend’s house in East Redding. She threatened to call police so he left but then came back and tried to punch her car window in. That didn’t work so he allegedly used a rock, and also slashed a tire. After changing her tire she started driving home but saw Beauchamp go by the other way on Shasta View Drive, then make a u-turn. She drove fast to try to elude him but he chased her until she pulled into the Tower Mart on Hartnell. She says he got out of his car and started punching her windows, so she left and called 9-1-1. Redding Police investigators found two bullet holes in the woman’s car, and apparently Beauchamp was still threatening the woman. With help from Anderson Police, investigators learned just before 4 O’clock Tuesday afternoon that Beauchamp was on East Cypress Avenue. He was taken into custody along with a Shingletown woman named Chaygamen Lake, who allegedly had been driving Beauchamp’s car during the shooting. Both were booked into jail.
