Traffic is flowing on the new Antlers Bridge. The 125 Million Dollar bridge is designed to carry Interstate 5 traffic over Lake Shasta at Lakehead for at least the next hundred years. Cal-Trans says northbound freeway traffic was directed onto the new bridge starting Thursday. Southbound traffic is expected to start crossing the bridge sometime next week. The project started 7 years ago after the old bridge, built in 1941, was deemed to be in need of replacement. The new bridge is actually five spans. It’s almost 2000 feet long and 104 feet wide. It took more than 13 Mllion pounds of steel and more than 37,000 cubic yards of concrete. A ceremony to celebrate the completion will take place September 30th at 11AM.
