Man Sentenced To 19 Years In Prison

A Gerber man is going to prison for attempted murder. On May 26th of last year 53-year-old Humberto Martinez stood in a dark alley off Samson Avenue in Gerber waiting for 28-year-old Hector Jimenez to ride by on his bicycle. Martinez and Jimenez had an ongoing dispute. When Jimenez rode by Martinez opened fire with a 22 caliber revolver. 2 of the rounds hit Jimenez, one in the hand and one in the buttocks. After the shooting Martinez fled down an alley, where deputies later found pieces of the handgun that was used. Deputies looked for Martinez but he wasn’t at his home and they could not find him. Two days later Martinez walked into the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and surrendered. In a separate case, Martinez was convicted of his fourth DUI in less than ten years. For both cases, Martinez has been given a combined sentence of 19 years in state prison
