A generosity gap has local charities making another appeal before Thanksgiving. Last year was particularly lean and this year’s “Stuff the Truck” drive did considerably better, but it’s just not enough. The Good News Rescue Mission, Salvation Army and Anderson Cottonwood Christian assistance still collectively need another 800 turkeys and 5,000 pounds of other food in order to meet the Thanksgiving needs of more than a thousand families in Shasta County. Ken White of the mission says this food is not for the homeless, but the working poor and unemployed who are struggling to get by and keep their children fed. Anyone who can help is encouraged to call 242-5920 or go to gnrm.org.
