Redding’s Neighborhood Police Unit continues its track record of success as they’ve now delved into the seamy world of Internet underage decoy sex stings. The unit says three suspects have taken the bait and arrived at pre-arranged locations expecting to meet with minors for sex. 53-year-old Clifford Jay Markhart of Redding was arrested on February 21st at a city park, where he allegedly had planned to meet a 15-year-old girl. 52-year-old Ronnie Lin Ray was arrested March 1st, also at a local park, after arriving to allegedly meet with a 15-year-old boy for sex. 42-year-old Timothy Thompson of Medford is a grocery delivery truck driver who allegedly had plans to meet with a 14-year-old girl. Officers say he has been frequently cruising by a Redding high school looking for underage girls. He was arrested March 9th and has already entered a guilty plea. The other two are awaiting court on charges of arranging sex with a minor. Police warn parents that social media sites are a popular way for sexual predators to seek their young prey.
