Redding Police say a bank robber they arrested told them he did it because he was tired of living on the streets. At 4:51PM Monday afternoon officers were called to the Tri-Counties Bank on South Street. A man had come in, brandished a handgun and demanded money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and he fled. Officers combed the downtown area and found a suspicious looking man who matched the description at the rear of R&R Meats on East Street. Identified as 54-year-old Gerald Wayne Cooksey, he was allegedly found to be in possession of the bank’s money. During an interview Cooksey reportedly confessed and told investigators where they could find the gun and clothing he had discarded. A replica gun was found. Cooksey has been arrested 10 times so far this year.
