The design of Redding’s new flag is now up to the citizens of Shasta County. A plan to adopt a flag with a simple Sundial Bridge design met with resistance when presented to the city council, so the task was entrusted to, and funded by, Catalyst Redding Young Professionals, who say they want to improve the cultural vibe of Redding with a swelling of civic pride and unity. More than 380 designs were submitted, by designers from the ages of 5 to 89. A panel of 14 judges chosen by Catalyst from the private-sector have picked their five favorites, which can be seen and voted on at reddingcityflag.com. Voting closes June 9th. The winner of the online voting gets $1000 and the design will be announced on flag day and submitted to the city council for adoption. Voting is open to all Shasta County residents.
