Officials have named the Shasta County Sheriffs Deputy who rolled his patrol vehicle last Friday morning. 39-year-old Ryan Kacalek is still in intensive care, though his condition has improved. Kacalek was driving southbound on Highway 273 at around 5:40AM, headed to a domestic violence call on Olinda Road. For unknown reasons the marked patrol vehicle veered off the west side of the highway just south of Jacqueline Street. The Ford Explorer struck a power pole and rolled over several times. Kacalek was not wearing a seatbelt and he was ejected. He’s been hospitalized ever since with internal injuries and a concussion. The CHP is still investigating.
