A Redding man turned his elderly mother’s home into a drug den, according to police. Several neighbors had reported their concerns about the 83-year-old woman in the apartment on Ridgetop Drive, and the RPD elder abuse unit was investigating. At the same time, the neighborhood police unit was investigating the same apartment for possible drug sales. They served a search warrant on Wednesday and found 39-year-old Donald Welborn making a quick exit from the garage. He was detained and then arrested for being on drugs. Inside the apartment, officers reported finding a large quantity of drug paraphernalia belonging to the tenant’s son, 56-year-old Ronald Ellis. He was arrested for felony elder abuse and maintaining a place where drugs are used or sold.
