A trio of boaters had to be rescued from the Sacramento River in Redding Thursday afternoon. At about 4:40PM the Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit was called to assist Redding Fire. The three people had been in an 11 foot kayak when the boat got sideways and overturned in the swift water upriver from the Cypress Avenue Bridge. They were unfamiliar with the boat and it was their first time on the river. Wisely, they were all wearing life vests and were picked up by the boating deputies, cold but otherwise unharmed.
