FEMA Resources Headed To Butte County

A State of Emergency declared by the governor for a number of Northern California counties, including Butte County, has been answered with a Federal Disaster Declaration, allowing FEMA resources to be used in recovery efforts. About 2000 homes have been destroyed in the various fires from Santa Rosa to Paradise that all started on Sunday and at least 18 people have been killed.

–The Cherokee fire burning north of Oroville is 8360 acres with 45% containment. Evacuations have been lifted.

–The La Porte Fire near Bangor has burned 3700 acres with just 15% containment. Evacuations west of Bangor have been lifted, but many other evacuations remain in place. Reports out of the town itself tell of near total devastation in many areas.

–The Honey Fire southwest of Paradise is 90 acres and 40% contained. Forward spread has been stopped.

–Farther south in Yuba County the Cascade Fire, north of Collins Lake, has burned 12,350 acres with 20% containment.

No specific information on destroyed homes or structure damage has been released for the Butte and Yuba County fires.
