An area off North Market Street was cleared by Redding Police Tuesday afternoon so they could approach a man believed to be dangerous. At 3:10PM officers were told of a man passed out behind the wheel of a Nissan van on Benton Drive near Loma Street. An aggressive dog was reported to be inside the van as well. Officers had already been looking for the van and it’s driver, 24-year-old Evan Moore, since getting reports earlier in the day that Moore may be suicidal and was in possession of two guns: a 9 millimeter handgun and an AR-15 assault rifle, similar to the guns used by the SWAT Team. Officers also had learned that Moore’s dog had been specifically trained for protection and biting. Attempts to hail Moore were unsuccessful. Due to the potential danger, nearby roads were closed and residents were told to hunker down as the RPD armored vehicle was brought to the scene and driven up next to Moore’s van. He was detained and transported to the hospital for clearance, then booked into jail for being on drugs and in possession of drugs. The dog was impounded. No weapons were found.
