This year’s Shasta Bike Challenge was huge, with participants logging 158,088 miles through the month of May. That’s enough to go around the world more than 6 times. More than a thousand local riders on 63 teams participated in the event. Shasta County ranked number two in the National Bike Challenge, far surpassing much larger and more populous areas. A group from Cal-Fire were the champions, with 140 participants who bicycled more than 16,000 miles. The Shasta Wheelmen had multiple cyclists who placed as top individual riders in the national challenge. All the results are at shastabikechallenge.org.
