A historic bar was heavily damaged by fire overnight. The Tropics has been closed for a while as it has been undergoing a remodel upon being acquired by a new owner. The fire seemed to have started on the outside beneath a mezzanine structure and could have been electrical, according to Redding Fire Inspector Patrick O’Connor. He says the fire was mostly contained to the multi-level attic area, but the damage may end up being more than the place is worth. O’Connor says the bar has probably been there since the 1940’s.
