Mission Need Volunteers To Help At Christmas Banquet

The Good News Rescue Mission still needs help to do something special for Christmas for hundreds of local people in need. The mission’s annual Christmas party is next Friday the 21st. At least a Thousand people are expected for the big sit-down banquet, which will be an all-day event. There are also as many as 500 kids expected to attend the children’s party. Besides the events there at the mission on South Market Street, there will also be hundreds of complete meals with all the trimmings handed out for families to take home with them. A lot of home baked cookies and more than 300 turkeys are still needed, and cash donations are always appreciated, but what’s really needed is the gift of time. Volunteers are essential, and there is a shortage of them. The Rescue Mission is appealing to the community to step up and help those less fortunate by lending a hand next Friday, even if it’s just for an hour. A variety of jobs are available. Specific details on donation and volunteer needs can be found at gnrm.org or by calling 242-5920.
