Representatives from Cal-Fire, the Forest Service and other agencies held a briefing Thursday morning to explain preparations for wildfire. Ironically, it was held on the ramp at Redding’s Air Attack Base, where the temperature was warm and the wind was gusting at 25 miles an hour. What used to be called “Wildfire Awareness week” is now “Wildfire Preparedness Week”, as the last 2 years have demonstrated that everyone should be aware of fire danger now. Speakers noted that 95 percent of fires are caused by humans, and that they’re well prepared and ready to do their part. They stressed that property owners need to their part by creating defensible space.
