A tragic crash in Trinity County on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a teenage boy from Weaverville. At around 2 O’clock the 16-year-old male driver had a 17-year-old male passenger, also from Weaverville. They were eastbound in a 2003 Nissan 350Z on Trinity Dam Boulevard a mile and a half east of Buckeye Ridge Road when the sports coupe left the roadway, went up a steep embankment and overturned. It landed back on the road and slid on it’s roof before coming to rest in the middle of the boulevard. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and he died at the scene. The passenger was wearing a seatbelt and he was able to crawl out of the wreckage on his own before being transported to Mercy Hospital in Redding with moderate injuries. The CHP says they do not suspect drugs or alcohol.
