Bank Employees Stop Elderly Man From Sending Money To Scammers

Alert bank employees in Mount Shasta are receiving praise the police department for saving a man from a scam. On Tuesday, Mt. Shasta Police responded to the Chase Bank. The bank’s staff suspected an elderly man was the victim of a scam. The man, who’s almost 90, was attempting to withdraw $6,000. Scammers had told him not to tell anyone about the Philippines sweepstakes he’d been told we won. The thieves had even supplied him with the number of the Federal Trade Commission to verify the lie. Of course, it wasn’t the correct number. At first, the person on the phone said this was a scam. Then, the person on the phone made a correction and said that the man had actually won $500,000. Police had a hard time convincing the victim to call the real FTC to check out the story. He had already sent an unknown amount of money Western Union, to pay fees and insurance on the check that was supposedly being delivered. Had the money been withdrawn, it most likely would have been sent out of the country and would have been gone.
