Redding Police want people to feel safe shopping in Redding’s retail districts. Extra officers have been concentrated in shopping areas, with forty directed patrols this past weekend, including on foot, in the downtown business district and other retail areas. The goal is to be a deterrent to thieves. That effort proved it’s worth when an officer and a CSO in training were on foot patrol in a department store and saw a man with a fully loaded shopping cart headed quickly toward the door. He saw the law enforcement presence and abandoned the cart before making a quick exit. The RPD reminds everyone to be aware of their surroundings while out shopping, and report suspicious looking people.
