Some shuttered businesses will be able to open this Friday as Shasta County enters phase two of the Governor’s plan to gradually reopen California. The Governor’s website says phase two does not allow for office workers, seated restaurant dining, or schools, at least not right away. What can open is the manufacturing sector and the retail supply chain that gets goods to stores. If they modify their layouts to allow for social distancing, allowable retail can include bookstores, clothing stores, florists and sporting goods stores. That doesn’t mean the mall can open, though. The only retail allowed are curbside shops. A guide for businesses can be found at shastaready.org.
The temporary overflow hospital that’s been partially set up at the Redding Civic Auditorium is being dismantled and stored locally, where it can quickly be set back up if the need arises. Public Health says the low rate of infection means the permanent hospitals have not come anywhere close to capacity, making the alternate care site unnecessary.
