A trial date has been set for a Redding man accused of murdering his 68-year-old mother. On the afternoon of April 10th, Joan McKenzie was found in a pool of blood at her home on Edgewood Drive in East Redding. She had been stabbed multiple times. While Redding Police Officers were en route, they intercepted Joan’s son, 32-year-old Nicholas McKenzie, on Old Alturas Road near Victor Avenue. Joan later died from her injuries. Investigators found evidence and witnesses linking Nicholas to the murder. His preliminary hearing was held earlier this month and Wednesday his trial was set for January 20th of next year. He remains in Shasta County Jail with bail set at a Million Dollars.
