A fire threatened homes off North Hilltop Drive Sunday. The fire was reported just before 3 O’clock in grass and brush off Peppertree Lane near Alamine Drive. Just as evacuations were about to begin, firefighters got a handle on the blaze, according to Redding Fire Battalion Chief Eric McMurtry. The fire was contained at about two acres, and also destroyed some fences and a trampoline worth about $2,000. The fire was caused by somebody using a vape pen in the tall dry grass.
