Feds Force Yreka Pharmacy To Close After Finding 150 Violations

A settlement has been reached by federal authorities with a locally owned drug store in Yreka that had been accused of poor record keeping. The Controlled Substances Act has very stringent requirements, and the violations alleged by the Drug Enforcement Administration have forced Luke’s Yreka Drug out of the pharmacy business altogether. The D.E.A. audited the small independent drug store in 2016 and identified more than 150 violations involving documentation of the quantities of controlled substances received from distributors in order to keep inventory straight. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is dropping charges as part of the settlement, which requires owner Lucas Walsh to pay $200,000 surrender the pharmacy’s D.E.A. registration.
