Jury trials in Shasta County last year were half of what they were in 2019. Only 39 trials were heard by juries, compared to 79 the previous year. 25 were felony trials, including five murder cases, 4 domestic violence cases and 2 for child molestation. 10 involved serious or violent conduct. Juries heard 14 misdemeanors trials, including 4 DUI’s and 6 for resisting arrest. The decline was not due to a reduction in crime, but rather to two different suspensions of Shasta County Superior Court activities because of COVID-19.
