A Corning man has been sentenced for an incident where he used his young child against police. On April first, a Corning police officer tried to apprehend 40-year-old Martin Rodriguez Diaz Jr for outstanding warrants, but he violently resisted and threw the officer to the ground and severely injured him. When other officers arrived Diaz picked up his 4-year-old child to use as a shield. The Officers grabbed a hold of Diaz and he dropped the child on the ground and punched one of the officers before they got him into custody. He’s been sentenced to 7 years 8 months in state prison.
