The biggest movie ever to be filmed in Shasta County is wrapping up. It’s called “The Dresden Sun” and its been quietly but noticeably filmed locally for the past 8 weeks, using local lodging, caterers, machinists, vehicle rentals and other businesses, as well as 50 local extras who got to work with stars Christina Ricci, Mena Suvari, Stephen Ogg, Samantha Win and Linus Roache. The film was directed by Michael Ryan, who chose Shasta County for its “scenic backdrops, relationships built in the community and the growing infrastructure locally.” The expanded flights between Redding and Los Angeles also made the production more economical. Scenes were shot at 15 different locations in Shasta County, making up over 75% of the movie. The locations and other aspects of the film were scouted with the help of Upstate California Film Commission and Film Shasta.
