Major injuries resulted from a crash on Interstate Five Tuesday afternoon. Just before One O’clock, a large box truck driven by a 40-year-old Sacramento man was northbound just north of the Hilltop Drive overcrossing when it rear-ended a Cal-Trans pickup truck that was stopped on the shoulder of the freeway for trash pickup. One of the Cal-Trans workers, a 25-year-old Anderson man, was in front of the pickup and was hit by it. He was launched down the embankment, suffering major injuries. The other Cal-Trans worker, a 66-year-old Bella Vista man, was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated with jaws of life by Redding Fire Department. He also suffered major injuries, and they were both hospitalized. The driver of the box truck declined medical attention. Traffic backed up for a few miles as the freeway was restricted to just one lane until just before 7 O’clock as the CHP investigated.
