The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says they shot a man in his own backyard Friday night because he pointed a gun at them. Just before 10 O’clock, deputies were accompanied by two Mount Shasta Police Officers for a domestic violence call on Sean Way, outside the Mount Shasta City limits. They say they arrived to find 57-year-old Darin Klep in the backyard holding a handgun to his head. A deputy started a conversation with Klep and tried to de-escalate the situation and convince Klep to put down the gun. When Klep lowered the gun and leveled it at the deputies and officers, he was shot. Klep was transported to Mercy Mount Shasta, where he was pronounced dead. An investigation is underway by a multi-agency team that does not include the Sheriff’s Office or Mount Shasta Police.
