A Shasta Lake City man is going to prison for running from National Park Service Law Enforcement Officers at Whiskeytown last year. On May 15th an officer at Oak Bottom Beach was going to cite 29-year-old Jacob Daniel Sarsfield for a minor regulatory violation. Instead of identifying himself and taking the ticket, Sarsfield took off running into the Oak Bottom Campground. After evading the officer on foot, Sarsfield made it to his vehicle just as another officer in a marked patrol vehicle arrived as backup. Sarsfield tried to evade the second officer, stopped briefly, and then took off again. Unable to escape the parking lot, he drove back to the beach, jumped out and took off on foot again. A witness saw what was going on and felt the need to protect his family and others, so he helped the officers detain Sarsfield. As part of a plea deal with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office, Sarsfield pleaded no contest to evading and has been sentenced to 2 years 8 months in state prison.
