An accused murderer has had his preliminary hearing set. 58-year-old Steven Schlapia is charged with first degree murder with special circumstances for the March 16th shooting death of 47-year-old Jimmy Wade Schwerdt outside Schlapia’s home off Bear Mountain Road. During a manhunt following the killing, Schlapia was found about a mile south of his home on Portero Drive. He entered a not guilty plea last month and is being held without bail. He was in court Monday, with a preliminary hearing set for May 24th.
