Voters who choose to go to the polls in Shasta County rather than vote by mail will no longer become points of confusion for poll workers, if the Board of Supervisors approves the acquisition of a system of electronic pads. The devices and software are not for tabulating votes; that’s done with a completely separate and secure system. The poll pad system is for tracking voters to be sure they can vote at a particular polling place and don’t have to cast a provisional ballot. It keeps the voter records updated and provides more efficiency in keeping the process accurate. The equipment has already been funded by the California Secretary of State’s Office.
