The people who run Benton Airpark have closed operations suddenly and without warning. Airplanes can still fly in and out of the Placer Street Airport and fuel is still available, but the Benton Air Center is listed as “permanently closed”. That includes the Airpark Cafe, the flight school and the mechanics shop. The status of community events, such as next month’s Aviation Day, remain uncertain. Jim and Janet Ostrich, who took over the contract to run the city-owned airport in 2016, have not commented on the closure.
