One of the more contentious statewide races in this year’s primary is for California Attorney General. On Wednesday a press conference promoting the campaign of Anne Marie Schubert was held at CR Gibbs in Redding. She’s currently the District Attorney for Sacramento County and has been endorsed by 40 of the state’s DA’s. Schubert’s event was attended by the District Attorneys of Shasta, Butte, Tehama, Lassen, and Siskiyou Counties, as well as a representative of the Shasta County Deputy Sheriff’s Association and former Sheriff Jim Pope. They all have endorsed Schubert, as have Sheriff Michael Johnson and former Shasta County DA and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California McGregor Scott. There was a lot of talk about rolling back recent changes brought about by Propositions 47 and 57, but those can only be struck down by a statewide voters. Schubert is a former Republican running as an Independent and faces a field that includes two Republicans, Nathan Hochman and Eric Early, as well as Dan Kapelovitz of the Green Party and Democratic incumbent Rob Bonta.
