Shasta County has a child abuse problem that nearly triples the average for California and for the nation. The Children’s Legacy Center opened in January of last year. It provides a safe place where abused and traumatized children can be questioned and cared for, and doesn’t have to retell their story and relive their pain and fear over and over. Now the organization is taking the next couple of steps in order to help in the healing process. The new Center for Resilience on Oregon Street will be a counseling center to help children move beyond the pain and find value in themselves. The center tries to work with families to repair bad situations and break the cycle, but sometimes a child must be removed from the situation. The other new service starting up is a foster family agency.
