A thief probably has no idea about the significance of a piece of statuary stolen from the yard of a Cottonwood couple. Sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning a statue was removed from the front yard of Bob and Charlotte Hensley on Bywood Drive off Bowman Road. The statue honors the memory of the Hensley’s daughter’s boyfriend, who was killed in action while serving in the Vietnam War. The Hensleys considered the young man to be part of their family and they’ve maintained the statue as a memorial for all these years. They’re heartbroken about the theft and they just want the statue back. It’s about three feet tall and depicts a soldier with a helmet, a pack and a rifle kneeling with his head bowed next to a cross. A $250 reward is available for tips through Tehama County Secret Witness at 529-1268.
